Skudai, Johor – May 3, 2024 – Taking the fight against scams to Johor, VaazMe participated in the Jelajah Anti Scam Peringkat Negeri Johor 2024 held last week. This event aimed to educate visitors and raise awareness on the dangers of scams and online fraud. Attendees had the opportunity to learn from industry experts through exclusive dialogues and experience exhibitions from various participants.

A concerning trend in scams involves “phishing”, where fraudsters attempt to trick users into revealing personal details like banking information. These scammers often lure victims with attractive offers of gifts, government aid, or job opportunities, creating a false sense of urgency or excitement to make them more susceptible to deception.
According to CyberSecurity Malaysia’s cybersecurity incident response center, Cyber999, there were 7,651 fraud cases resulting in losses of RM332 million reported recently. Within the same period, internet users reported 1,555 cybersecurity incidents, with online fraud cases making up the highest proportion at 1,025, representing 66% of all reported incidents.

To avoid fraud from happening, users should verify the third-party identities before making any transaction — to reduce the risk of trusting scammers who disguise themselves as legitimate dealers. Normally, eKYC (electronic-Know Your Customer) was only used by businesses to verify and onboard their end-users during the registration process, making sure the customer has a legitimate identity.
With the raising of scams and fraud attacks towards individuals, VaazMe allows peer-to-peer verification where the requester can request the other party to perform identity checks before getting involved in any crucial transaction. This includes online shopping transactions through unverified platforms such as Instagram, online dating and so on.

As a peer-to-peer ID verification service provider, VaazMe stands firm in its mission to safeguard the digital landscape. VaazMe strives to create a more secure digital environment for all by ensuring users are who they claim to be behind the screen.
